Hailing from San Francisco, CA Mike Hicks writes moody and intimate songs that flirt with tragic and haunting melodies while maintaining a pop sensibility. His honest and organic approach to songwriting is a breath of fresh air in a time where music is often polluted by pretense and over production. Dodging comparisons to the likes of Elliott Smith, Dashboard Confessional, and Pete Yorn, Mike insists on carving out his own musical niche. As a solo performing singer/songwriter, Mike has played extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area including the enormously successful Vans' Warped Tour in 2003. Mike Hicks recently released his debut EP "Shine" on Minor Miracle Records on which he played nearly all of the instruments.
History:
Former member of Time Spent Driving (vocals, bass) - Released "Just Enough Bright" (Sessions Records, 2001, produced by J Robbins-Hey Mercedes, Promise Ring, Jets to Brazil) Toured the western U.S. numerous times in a broken down van as well as the Vans' Warped Tour in 2002.
Former member of The Pathetics (vocals, guitar) - Released "Where do we go from here?" (Swingin Records, 2000). Extensively toured the Eastern U.S. on a three month tour sponsored by Best Buy/Guitar Center/Ernie Ball Guitars visiting over 60 cities. Joined the enormously successful Vans' Warped Tour for its California dates in 1997-2000 playing to over 10,000 people per show.
