Details:
Hello, music lovers! I'm Mike Oakley, checking in with my first ever release, "Spendin' The Day In Bed" on Wild Hair Records.
I was born and raised in Nashville, TN (and you thought nobody was FROM Nashville). Music has been a huge part of my life as long as I can remember. When I was a kid, my mom bought a transistor radio with green stamps. I became permanently attached to that radio. It was during the time of the British Invasion and I was hooked!! Soon after that, Mom and Dad bravely got me a set of drums for Christmas. My brother Rick got an electric guitar. Some time later, he showed me a few chords and I was on my way.
I played mainly for my own enjoyment for years. I began writing songs in my 20's but it was (and still is) a slow process. I played my first writers night in the fall of 2002. I was a guest of Gibson & Mileti, who also have fine CD on this very website (check it out).
For my 46th birthday, my wife Judy gave me the gift of studio time. It turned out to be the best gift I ever received. I got a chance to play with some of the best session players in Nashville. For example, Supe Granda of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils on bass. Jim Hoke has played sax for NRBQ, Mark Knopfler, Don Henley and now, me. WOW!! I can't thank them and all the other players enough.
Last but not least, a word about my producer/engineer and good friend Randall Merryman. Randall has worked with artist such as the Marshall Tucker Band, Shel Silverstein, Randy Bachman (BTO), Jim Capaldi (Traffic), blues piano greats Johnny Johnson, Clayton Love and Jimmy Vaughan to name only a few. His vision for my songs, attention to detail and words of wisdom (like "Don't F--- up!") made for a great experience.
I could ramble on all day (and I almost have). Just kick back and give "Spendin' The Day In Bed" a listen. I think it will leave you with a good feeling.
