Details:
File under: Radio-friendly power-pop. Named by The Boston Herald as one of 5 outstanding local releases of the year 2000, Miss Fortune's debut full-length appeals to fans of artists like U2, Jeff Buckley, Jellyfish, Radiohead, and the Wallflowers. The band's heartfelt songcraft and passionate delivery will excite even serious pop snobs.

Guitarist Jay Barclay and his friends, drummer Chris Hobbick and bassist Jon Hindmarsh, posted a 'singer wanted' ad on a bulletin board in early 1999. Ryan Link responded to the ad, having just relocated to Boston from his hometown of Seattle. Barclay had written most of the songs already, and Link contributed a couple of his own to their set (one, "If You Died", appears on this CD).

The band "toured" New England and the Northeast extensively through 2001.

Link moved to New York shortly thereafter to pursue an acting career. He is now starring as Roger Davis in the long-running rock opera RENT, on Broadway. Barclay continues to rock out in Boston with the So-and-Sos (also with Hobbick on drums) and Godboxer.

Q Division rock scientist Mike Denneen (Aimee Mann, the Pixies, Fountains of Wayne, the Sheila Divine) handled mixdown duties on this bright and shiny, yet emotionally scarred, guitar-pop CD.

Miss Fortune press accolades:

"...excellent and delightfully grandiose..." - Boston Herald, November 17, 2000 (Sarah Rodman)

"...belongs in every pop music fan's collection."- Worcester Phoenix, November 2, 2000

"One of the most organized and professional independent recordings I've ever heard. You'll find yourself listening over and over again.... This is simply a beautiful timeless recording." - Indulged.com, November 2000 (Andy Wirtanen)

"Miss Fortune have taken the craft of songwriting to new levels." -- Riffage.com feature, October 2000

"Angling a tried-and-true theory of power pop guitars, affective prose and highly charged vocals, Miss Fortune sounds hauntingly reminiscent of The Gin Blossoms' appealing sounds when they were in their heyday. The driving rhythm section capped off by searing guitar work makes these two songs stand on end and spin! Can't wait to hear a full-length release by this creative bunch." -- Metronome Magazine, July 2000 (Douglas Sloan)

"...intriguing melodymakers... It's free but we would gladly pay for this one." -- Boston Globe's Go! column, previewing the Kendall Cafe residency, August 7, 2000

"Cleverly written, guitar-driven, 80s-influenced pop with an occasional Freddie Mercury moment." -- emerge.sonicnet.com

"Promising newcomers" - Stuff@Night (Boston), August 15, 2000
