Details:
It's true that acoustic singer/songwriters are a dime-a-dozen these days, but it's also true that acoustic artist Michael Miles is unique in his own right and deserves attention and notoriety. He sets himself apart from the overly-saturated, acoustic guitarist market with a newer genre of music that Michael has been exploring-urban acoustic rock-combining the organic, earthy sound of percussive acoustic guitar with infectious and imaginative urban beats and loops. This particularly unique approach to music, particularly for the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minnesota) where Michael resides, can be best described as David Gray's acoustic work meets Bjork's innovative loops and urban beats.

There are new and exciting things on the horizon for Michael Miles, including two brand new CD releases and the addition of a new approach to his live shows, a two-man acoustic show featuring the incomparable James Orvis playing a unique drum and percussion combination set. In addition to re-releasing his debut CD "Through" with six brand new tracks, Michael Miles is releasing his second CD, the Studio72 Sampler 2003, which showcases his new signature sound-urban acoustic rock. The last track of this six-song CD sampler contains a small snapshot of the two-man sound. Michael Miles has plans to record a live CD, capturing the two-man sound that he's bringing to venues and the college circuit in 2003 and into 2004.

Michael Miles has a 13-year history of writing and performing his own material and nearly the same track record of spending time in the recording studio, whether for his own music or other people's projects. Michael has found himself involved in a wide variety of bands, from grunge to rhythm and blues, and jazz to AAA rock. It wasn't until a few years ago that Michael began to devote more time to his solo projects, acoustic-driven songwriting and making his music career goals a reality. Deeply integrated into those goals, Michael Miles is bringing the signature sound of urban acoustic rock to colleges and universities across the country, to the larger adult alternative audience in the United States, and someday abroad to European audiences.

Michael's counterpart on the two-man shows is the creative and innovative James Orvis. James has equal the experience and doubles the progressive approach to music when accompanying Michael Miles. He brings about a unique sound with his creative approach to drumming-using ordinary and not-so-ordinary objects to create impressive sounds and beats. As proven in their microphone placement techniques and synergy between each other, they accomplish a headlining sound, but not at the headlining expense.

Michael Miles plans to aggressively play the college market and eventually move towards intimate-sized halls (between 500 and 1,500 seat capacities), both stateside and across the Atlantic to the European market. With the release of these two CD's, his sound knowledge of the music business and innovative ideas and business practices, it is not an unforeseeable destiny that Michael Miles will someday have a similar notoriety to newcomer Ryan Adams or even that of more established artists like David Gray. With such a huge destiny in front of acoustic artist Michael Miles, only one question begs answering: what role will you play in that journey?
