CHERYL CATHERINE SMITH BIOGRAPHY

As a singer and a performer, Montreal born Cheryl Catherine Smith has had the privilege of working with a variety of famous, not so famous and infamous artists both in the studio and on international stages. Cheryl wrote her first song at the age of eleven and as a teenager became a more serious musician working as a lead singer with several bands, to include Elim and Cornerstone. She started out as part of Vancouverâs gospel music scene, where then manager of Vancouverâs famed recording studio Little Mountain Sound, Mr. Bob Brooks, was an influence. It was here that she truly got hooked on the high that only live performances can bring after performing before an appreciative crowd of 10,000 people at Vancouverâs PNE Main Stage. She was then, and continues to be, compared to Blondie, Cher, Pat Benatar and Madonna in her vocal styling. She went on to became an international print and runway model as well as a film and television actor, and focused on these disciplines for several years before recognizing the internal need and drive to return to her true passion â music and writing. In 2001, Cheryl received a BA degree in Studio Art and English Literature from the University of British Columbia. This experience influenced her in lending a poetically focused writing style to her music, one where artistic imagery prevails. She is considered by many of her fans to be a Canadian poet, one who deftly utilizes music as a backdrop to convey artistic ideals and to make personal and social observations. Cheryl has been a back-up vocalist for the well-known Canadian supergroup BTO and also worked extensively as a studio session singer for Canadian artists such as Cherelle Jardine, Sean Garrett and Vince Roy. She has hundreds of live performances to her credit, and has worked with Juno award winning artists such as David âTadâ Campbell (Idle Eyes) and Basil Donovan (Blue Rodeo.) Most recently she has fronted Top-40 Vancouver based bands: Ryder, P*U*S*H* and Off the Hook. Internationally she has performed with the bands: Skookum (London, UK) and Rubber Soul (Liverpool, UK); and also has solo performances throughout the UK. Cheryl is currently devoted to her career as a Canadian original artist, working together with her very talented and accomplished creative partner in music, Mr. Kevin Swain.
