MOONLIGHT AGONY - ECHOES OF A NIGHTMARE
Melodic Power Metal with Progressive touches, with some similarities to, Labyrinth, Firewind, Rhapsody and Kamelot. Excellent compositions many symphonic melodies, epic atmospheres with a dark feel. Chity's voice, who is also FIREWIND's singer, is Fantastic and is one more asset that gives extra points to this Debut.
"Echoes Of A Nightmare" has been recorded at Division One studio outside Gothenburg. Producer in the studio was Tom Englund, singer and guitarist of Evergrey.
In conclusion, we have a dignified and highly noticeable album from a new band we're confident they'll be warmly accepted by Power and Prog-Metal
fans.

Formed as THORUM, this Swedish sextet changed its name to MOONLIGHT AGONY, which also fits better with the band's sound. It's described as "Dark Symphony Metal", which somehow disturbs me. Because what is offered here is Symphonic Metal a la SONATA ARCTICA or THUNDERSTONE. With the difference that this is somewhat more playful now and then and that influences from the Prog sector as well as from what bands a la ROTTING CHRIST/DIMMU BORGIR do, are present.
Well, this becomes evident in the symphonic keyboard passages, but MOONLIGHT AGONY don't sound particularly Âdark" at any time. Rather mystical and partly also epic. And this sounds quite impressive, the way the Northmen arranged their passages. Another plus is the strong singing by vocalist Chity from Sri Lanka whom I still remember very well from AVALON. His organ is richly faceted and has class. Combined with the really captivating instrumental passages, this turns into an exciting affair for all fans of the genre. It's only the choruses on two songs ("Ceremony", "Ghost") which are so trashy I almost pissed my thong...And this is also the disc's weak point, if it wasn't for these stupid tralala-choruses, a way higher mark would be the result. Because besides that the music is very appealing!
It's especially ÂVanished" which is a song that was simply brilliantly done and demands a thorough amount of respect from me. "Equilibrium" has also been constructed rather epicly and delights through song structures that are full of breaks which have been used completely in favour of the song. Or the driving, slightly folky opener "Into Darkness" definitely pleases you and is the ideal introduction to this somewhat discrepant album.

Atmosphere to power melódico with mixed progressive dyes folk and with powerful voices from which to all the lovers of the metal us gustan.Si this disc removes Edguy to it, Hammerfall, Stratovarius, would be being criticized with Maxima score in almost all the sites. As these Swedish not yet the sufficient thing is known them, in spite of taking to four years giving war, they will have to raise its pure success cojón. One of the founders of the band is the previous battery of Dragonland, Robert Willstedt.
Disco has been produced, entreb others, by Tom Englund (Evergrey) in Gotteborg, that collaborates in "Equilibrium", and perhaps from the slowness in the guitars of some subjects comes to him there, like which it gives title albun. Adjustments revoloteando by melodía of the songs, and good changes of direction within the subjects, are the general tonic of the songs, entering themselves in their majority towards progressive lands. Izzy Plains begins of skillful form to become cuasi half time to power metalero to two voices, the one of the vocalista of the band, Chity Somapala (Avalon and Firewind), and the one of Carina (woman of Tom S.Englund), really interesting. Peculiar the origin of Sri Lanka of this vocalista. Much music within Ceremony with épicos choirs to the Rhapsody style. Very good power-folk in "Ghost". Heavy guitarrero beginning in "Moonlight horizont", to go into the prog-metal instrumental, but on bases of double big drum. Interesting subject, for my the best one, "Vanished", because it puts in the ears a pile of influences, changes to you, versatility, and like no, quality.
We are before a great debut within the style. In case somebody wants labels we have the one them have been placed, "Dark Symphony Metal". The certain thing is that them it is not possible to be considered dark too that we say. For the most experimental lovers of Angra, the first Rhapsody, brilliant the Kamelot, and in general, to entertain to all the great circle that surrounds the metal.

Already around since 1999, when they were founded as Thorin, this Swedish symphonic power metal band have just released their debut album. As they are represented by Intromental, who also manage Wuthering Heights and Platitude a.o., their "Echoes Of A Nightmare" album didn't collect much dust before I decided to give it its first spin.
Two familiar names can be spotted in Moonlight Agony's line-up. Drummer and one of the band's founders Robert Willstedt was once a member of power metal outfit Dragonland. Besides, the man on vocals should ring a bell with most of you: ex-Avalon and current Firewind and Faro vocalist Chitral Somapala. With his powerful, non-cliché voice he managed to solve all problems the band were coping with in this department since the very beginning.
Band name and album title suggest a dark, morose piece of work and that's what "Echoes Of A Nightmare" is indeed. But while this disc contains some of the darkest metal I've heard recently, it comes packed with tons of haunting melodies, shredding guitar work and ingenious progressive influences as well. Bands as Dream Theater (especially in the mid part of "Equilibrium"!), Evergrey and management mates Wuthering Heights and Beyond Twilight come to mind when thinking of who might have influenced them. A similarity with Dragonland can be heard as well, which is quite obvious. Not only because Willstedt used to be in that band, but also because of the disc's sound, as "Echoes Of A Nightmare" has partly been recorded in the Kings-ton Studios with Christer Pedersen, who worked with Dragonland a.o., behind the knobs. Vocals and final mix were done at Division One Studios with Evergrey's Tom Englund, who guests on guitar in "Equilibrium" and whose wife Carina, already famous for her great vocal work on Evergrey's albums, can be heard in "Icy Plains".
With not even a single average song in sight, "Echoes Of A Nightmare" is one hell of a debut for this talented band. Somapala's voice fits right in with the dark sounds of the others. There's some people with ears for talent at Intromental, that's for sure!
