Produced by Doug Fieger of The Knack, this L.A. band weaves Beatlesque hooks and powerful grooves.
11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Classic Rock, POP: Beatles-pop
Details:
Mysterypop (formerly known as Spanish Kitchen)has been an L.A. club staple since the mid-90s. The band's debut album was produced by Doug Fieger of The Knack. Guitarist/keyboardist/backup singer Willie Aron has toured and/or recorded with Michael Penn, Victoria Williams, Syd Straw, Stan Ridgway and other cool folks and was a co-founder of The Balancing Act.
The music is tuneful and muscular, with mellotrons and Moog solos and B3 and tack pianos and rhyming guitar leads and stacked harmonies. People who are still attached to the concept of an "album" tend to like it very much.
Here are some nice things people have said about the band:
"These guys are the real deal--an anomaly in L.A.'s convoluted music scene... a true diamond in the increasingly intelligence-insulting L.A. rough. It's heartening to witness a troupe, all convictions intact, who are truly concerned with progress."
--Entertainment Today
"Power pop pulses with a Zep-like deliciousness... astute lyrics, handsome harmonies, sturdy back beat and downright durable bass, too--all making for a well-balanced musical meal... A delightful dinner of true passion one can get lost in."
