Soulworks Records, the New Jersey-based independent Filipino-American record company released the highly anticipated second volume of the historic rock compilation series, Rock in the Box.

Circled Sin (Maryland) â With One Hand
Diablo Royale (New York) â Remedy
The Marys (Georgia) â Good Times
Noizytoyz (Canada) â Paramdam
Out of Luck (Canada) â Elemento

Steel Polly (Maryland)â Regina
Stellaâs Notch (California) â Evil Jill
Super Kabote (California) â Too Late
Then Again (New Jersey) â Density
Trickbag (New Jersey) â Itâs Over Now

This is the first compilation that will include bands from all over North America. The first volume of Rock in the Box, released also in August of 2006, only featured bands mostly from the East Coast: The Speaks (Washington, DC), Bleud (NJ), The Kuwagos (NJ), Rubberband (NY), The Happy Analogues (NJ), Bagwis (IL), Blue Mellon Pop (NY), The Moonbugs (MD), Grim Bottle (NJ), Sodapop Suicide (NJ), Alfa(NJ), Grim Bottle(NJ), Titofelix,(GA) and The Third Element (MD).
Now after a record number of entries from last yearâs open submission, the compilation series has truly gone continental.

Ronnie Lao of Soulworks believes that the compilation, more than anything else, highlights the great talent of our people:
âThe songs in Rock in the Box 2, like in the first volume, are a testament to our capability to create international quality songs. The variety of musical genres encapsulates how we have adapted these talents into the world market but still have that Filipino touches to them.â

The Rock in the Box series has become a rite of passage for most Fil-Am artists since it was introduced in 2006. It is a traditionâ a legacy that Filipino artists abroad are bound to uphold. Its impact runs deep and its purpose is to inspire.

âI believe that Rock in the Box 2 will again reach, if not surpass, the feats achieved by the first one, touching Filipino musicians not only in North America but all over the world,â said photographer and filmmaker Sheryl-Garcia Reyes, who is also part of the art direction team of the project.

Gatchie Ignacio, one of the projectâs executive producers believes that aside from the compilation being a vehicle for Filipino artists abroad to gain a wider audience, its very reason for being is deeply rooted in the idea of community:

âThe Rock in the Box series serves primarily as a celebration of Filipino artists living in North America, but also is an able vehicle to promote the rich pool of talents we can proudly call our own. We are working to make each release to spearhead our local scene and hope to make it relatively easier and more feasible for Filipino Americans to break through the mainstream. But more importantly, it shows how we as a community is able to accomplish as far as our dreams can take us,â Ignacio said.

It is imperative to stress the fact that Rock in the Box 2 is not a product of a corporate entity but rather that of independent artists as well.

âThere is no corporate funding for this project. It is a product of hard work, commitment, and our own humble monetary contributions to make it all happen,â said Ted Reyes. The labelâs resident artiste and repertoire.

â We are so thankful for the support that we are getting from the Filipino community, especially the artists in the new volume. Without them, there would be no reason to do this at all,â Reyes added.
