HERB RYALS
If you ask Herb Ryals when he first fell in love with music, heâd probably say âIt must have happened when I was born. Herb recall his mother telling him that before he could talk, he would hum along with the songs constantly playing on the radio in the Ryals home. Both his mother and father could sing and his sisters were singing in perfect harmony as far back as Herb can remember. A native of Georgia, and being raised in the deep south, Herb was influenced by a broad range of singers and musicians (including big band, country, blues, rock and roll and more). His first performance was at the age of 3 where sang âGod Bless Americaâ at a cantata in Albany, Georgia. He taught himself to play piano and saxophone while still a teenager and was playing professionally by the age of 18. At 20, he landed his first recording contract with a newly-formed record label in Memphis, Tn. Known as Pepper Records. He recorded a remake of the standard â Heart and Soulâ, which was successful enough to send him on tour with artists Frankie Avalon, Chuck Berry, Johnny Horton, Ferlin Huskey and many others. Herb worked as a singer, songwriter and musician in Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans and New York. He recorded âThe Luckiest Guyâ and âSuzanneâ (with Jerry Willis) on Dot Records in 1961 (both songs which had considerable success in Europe). In 1968, Herb recorded âLike the falling Rainâ released on RCA Victor and âGoodbye Mariaâ was recorded in the early 70âs (released on Atco Records). When Elvis Was in Germany, Herb played live with Elvisâ backing band members, Bill Black and Scotty Moore. Several of Herbâs songs were recorded by other artists, such as Arthur Alexander and Roy Hamilton. Herb ahas worked with top producers such as Noel Ball in Nashville (who produced hits âSugar Shackâ, âYou Better Move Onâ and âAnnaâ). In New York, he worked with producer Paul Vance (who produced hits âItsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikiniâ and âcatch a falling Starâ). In the 1980âs, Herb recorded his version of Percy Sledge hit âwarm and Tender Loveâ, which placed him in billboard magazine.
Today, however, Herb Ryals is singing and playing different songs.. songs that glorify Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour . After many years in night clubs and the secular music business Herb began to feel that something was missing in his life and that his music was not having a positive impact on himself or his audiences. Herb says that sometime in the nineties he felt the lord calling him to use his talents to glorify the lord and bring people to JESUS CHRIST. It was during this time that herb began writing gospel music and eleven of his gospel songs are featured on the Lifeboat CD available on CD Baby. Also, Herb currently has a CD entitled Gospel Sax Vol. 1 which features Herb playing favorite Hymns on tenor saxophone and this CD is also available on CD Baby. Herb says âit is my goal to glorify the Lord through my music and I hope people will hear something in my music that brings them to the Lordâ. One of Herbâs favorite scriptures is Matthew 6:33.. âbut seek ye first the Kingdom of GOD and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto youâ. Look for all of Herb Ryalsâ music on CD Baby.
