Maxim Lubarsky is a native of Odessa, Ukraine, where he began his musical career as a classical pianist. When he was seven years old, he began his musical education at the Stolyarsky School of Music, where his father, a member of the piano faculty, was his teacher and mentor. Subsequently, Maxim received a Masterâs Degree in Performance, Pedagogy, Classical Ensemble and Accompaniment from the Odessa State Conservatory, where he studied with Evilina Kovalenko. During his last years in school Maxim acquired a love for jazz music and started his first group âArt Sessionâ, with whom he played numerous venues in the Ukraine and won first place in several competitions including the Krivoy Rog, Dnipropetrovsâk, and Kobanchenko Jazz Festival. In 2001 Maxim came to Berklee to pursue jazz education, where he studied with such renowned musicians as Joanne Brackeen, Danilo Perez and Joe Lovano. At Berklee he was the recipient of Best Scholarship 2001 and the Berklee Technics Piano Award in 2002.

While in Ukraine, in addition to his performances with the âArt Sessionâ Jazz Ensemble, Maxim played in concert with the Odessa State Symphony Orchestra and performed with the Odessa State Circus Big Band. He has also toured with numerous musicians in Israel, France, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Greece, and the USA. These tours included recordings for CD productions.

Since the arrival to United States, Maxim has been involved in numerous projects and recordings with performers such as Gabriel Goodman, Cristian Armstead, Jerome Kyles, Tania Shilansky, Angela Rossi, and others. He has performed with his jazz group and has given many solo recitals in various venues such as Ryles Jazz Club, Amazing Things Art Center, Acton Jazz Cafe, Pickman Concert Hall at Longy School of music, Berklee Performance Center, just to list a few. Maxim has become a regular performer at the Spoleto festival in Charleston, S. Carolina. He has appeared at the Bean Town Jazz Festival. He has recorded the classical duo CD and toured with a violinist Rosalita Agrest. In the past year Maxim has been in a close collaboration with jazz vocalist Sandra Aran. Their work together has led to a recording of a CD, "Intimately". Recently Maxim and his group have recorded an album âIâll Be Aroundâ which features Maximâs original compositions and arrangements.

Maxim is very happy on stage, performing both jazz and classical music, working with other musicians who love this music. His idea of a perfect life is to be a musician, being constantly surprised at the changes his work brings to the music as it is happening.
