If everything old is new again, then The Mississippi Kings, a quintet hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, should take both the old and new world by storm with the release of their debut album, Long Time Cominâ.

Breathing new life into the Canadian rock scene, the Mississippi Kings are a band that surely must not be missed. Exploding out of Hamiltonâs vibrant music scene, the Kingsâ own brand of steel-town grit is delivered with stack soul harmonies and soaring melodies, which will move your body to emotional bliss reviewed Canada Jams in October 2007. Described as âThe Band meets Motown,â the Mississippi Kings energetic live show and musical storytelling will transport you to the swampy marshlands of the Mississippi, rather than the muddy waters of the Hamilton Harbour.

The Mississippi Kings were founded in Hamilton in 2006 by Nick Cino (vocals), Mike Ventimiglia (guitar), Dave Marini (bass) and Dan Stajduhar (drums), and later joined by Ivan Katkic (keyboards) in 2007. As the band's primary songwriters, Nick and Mike have created their own distinct style combining a fierce double-vocal attack, stack harmonies and soulful guitar work. The breadth of musical influences, from The Beatles, Bob Dylan and Neil Young to Marvin Gaye and The Temptations, is reflected in their diverse songwriting abilities.

Long Time Cominâ â recorded at Vibewrangler Studio in Hamilton with producers Glen Marshall and Michael Keire (Feist, Tom Wilson, Peter Yarrow) â carries a similar infectious vibe that swathed the Villa Nellcôte recording sessions, where the Stones recorded the legendary Exile on Main Street. Long Time Cominâ was initially released on October 18, 2008 as a free download through the bandâs website. Plans are now underway to follow up the album release with some extensive touring in Canada and Europe.

Says Hamilton producer Glen Marshall, âWhen the Kings play their original songs along side the ârock and soulâ songbook standards, the audience rolls right along as if they've known the songs all along. Itâs a testament to the Mississippi Kingsâ understanding and ability to create and perform truly great original songs that I believe can live easily amongst the cannon of some of the greatest popular songs of the 20th century.â
