Details:
Mitch Rossell, full name Mitchell Scott Rossell, was born on September 23, 1987 in Chattanooga, TN. His parents, Kelly Whited and Roy Rossell, divorced when he was 2 years old and his father moved to Tellico Plains, TN. This transition was hard growing up, and with a new stepdad in the house things were at times, rocky. Mitchâs father would come get him every other weekend to stay at his house and during the summer he would stay for weeks at a time. This is where he first picked up music as his dad played guitar and piano by ear and also sang solo pieces in church. Mitch got on stage at church for his first live, public performance and everyone told him he was gonna grow up to be a country music star. Time went by, and at the tender age of 10 years old, his father, his best friend in the world, was killed in a car accident involving a drunk driver. His father was headed home on a two lane highway from work and his fatherâs father-in-law was driving towards him in the opposite direction. A drunk driver clipped the back of Mitchâs grandfather-in-lawâs truck and sent him into his fatherâs lane. They hit head on, killing his father, grandfather-in-law, and grandmother-in-law who was in the vehicle with Mitchâs dad. The police and authorities called it a freak accident involving two family members in two separate cars, both unaware they were headed towards each other. He stayed angry at the world and God for a while, but he will tell you now, time heals wounds and everything happens for a reason. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior his sophomore year and things took on new meaning and purpose. Through high school he excelled in sports and even had opportunities to play college golf but declined. It was the summer after high school graduation when he found his calling. His father had always wanted him to play the guitar but growing up he never took the time to sit down and learn. At the age of 17, just before entering his freshman year in college, he went and bought a $250 Washburn guitar and started playing. He took a few lessons and his teacher was amazed at how fast he picked everything up. Before long he was teaching himself and then it happened, he wrote his first song. Having a love for poetry in high school, he applied similar principles and strung together some chords to create a story with a melody. The satisfaction was overwhelming and shortly after his freshman year in college he got hooked up with hit songwriter Mark Gray. Mark wrote songs such as âTake Me Downâ and âThe Closer You Getâ by Alabama, âIt Ainât Easy (Beinâ Easy)â by Janie Fricke, as well as others. Mark saw potential and immediately began teaching Mitch structure and the way a song went from being ok, to really coming to life. As he matured into a songwriter, he came across another friend by the name of Jake Caldwell. Jake is currently Phil Vassarâs drummer and he owns a studio in Grundy County TN. Jake saw talent and offered to provide some great musicians and produce an album with 10 original songs all written solely by Rossell. Mitch took him up on it and got to work with the likes of Justin Williamson (fiddle for Brad Paisley), Terri Lee Palmer (former lead guitarist for Mark Wills), Matt Williamson (former bassist for Keith Anderson), and obviously Jake on the drums. To this day he has written close to 90 songs and he is always striving to be the best musician, writer, singer and person he can possibly be.
Mitch's debut album, "Who I Am", is a nice mixture of a modern country feel, with the timeless lyrics that have made country music what people know it as today. Each song written solely by Rossell, comes straight from his heart, through his pen, and to you in this debut album. Beside him on this album, producing, mixing, and playing all the drum tracks is Jake Caldwell. Jake plays drums on the road for Phil Vassar and is an incredible musician and producer. Justin Williamson is on the fiddle and mandolin and he is none other than Brad Paisley's road and studio fiddle player! His brother, Matt Williamson, is playing bass and was once the bassist for Mr. Keith Anderson. Last, but certainly not least, you have Mark Wills former lead guitarist, Terri Lee Palmer. These musicians are some of the most talented men in the industry and it shows in these songs.
