JAZZ: World Fusion, NEW AGE: Environmental
Details:
Its been 2 years since my debut CD "I've Been Waiting for You," since then I've observed more, I've experienced more, and I've grown and like before - I chose to write about it. This is a concept album of sorts, all the songs deal with idea of moving from an unhappy circumstance or situation to more a fulfilling one. Some songs occur during the unhappy situation, others are written looking back at an unhappy time. Musically I chose to return to my Caribbean roots, so there is a distinctive, yet subtle "island flavor" as we like to say, present. Below are synopses of some of these songs.
Free
This song focuses on the desire to free oneself from bonds - whether they are financial or work related, relationships or just not being at the personal place you want to be at.
Peace
I like to think of us human beings as intelligent creatures, so it baffles me when political leaders find it necessary to send their young men and women to other countries to kill and destroy homes and lives. Isn't there a more evolved way to settle disputes?
Beggars cup
I'm really proud of this song, it's the story of a beggar, but this beggar isn't begging for money, he's begging for something that will last. This song seemed to write itself. Actually this entire album felt like it had already been written. I remember on "I've Been Waiting for You" I spent a lot of time re-writing and editing. This one just flowed.
Lost/found
I guess this song picks up where "Waiting for You" leaves off. The idea of being content in ones own skin. celebrating one's individuality, looking into the mirror of one's soul and finding peace there.
U
I think this is my favorite right now. It's a love song. U r my sun... U r my moon... my universe revolves around U...
Love again
I love doing acapella pieces, I guess that's why I chose to include an acapella song on this CD too. This was actually written when I wrote the first CD, but it didn't really fit in there, but I think it works really well here.
A new me
This poem describes the process of picking one's self up, putting the pieces back together and moving on to a brighter day.
Someday
This is my prayer.
Someday we'll get together - someday we'll be alright
Someday we'll stop this hatred that's keeping us apart
Someday we'll know what love is - someday we'll lend a hand
Someday we'll know who God is - someday we'll understand.
