"Night Trap" Biography

Night Trap is a six-man classic-rock Minneapolis band fronted by Chip Sharratt and Dickie Christopher. Dickie and Chip began jamming when they were teenagers and finally started writing songs together in 1989. Completing nearly 100 new songs in three years, they went to Metro Studios in the Warehouse District of downtown Minneapolis and teamed with James Walsh (Keyboards/producer for "Gypsy") to record their first CD. "Petals & Thorns" was released in early 1994 and received international visibility through internet release, garnering national songwriting awards for four of the twelve tracks. "Promise Land" (a country/soft rock ballad by Dickie) was recognized with an Honorable Mention in the 2001 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Two other songs by Dickie ("The Fading Rose" and "Any Word From A Lady") received top "Rock" honors in the Song Spree Songwriting Contest out of Nashville in 1996 and 1997, and were re-released on Spree Select compilation CD's each of those years. And Chip's rock-song, "Before I'm Gone" was re-released on a compilation CD entitled "Unsigned - 2000", produced by audiohighway.com in Los Angeles in April, 2000.

In late 2000, Chip and Dickie gathered the members of the Night Trap band together to record their second CD - "borderline breakdown". Returning on keyboards was James Walsh, lead guitar was Kenny Wilson, and bass guitar was Bobby Jones; and new on drums was Danny Roussin. This CD was a collection of new original hard-hitting rock songs - more commercially flavored, but still possessing the subtle political and satirical commentary representative of "Petals & Thorns". Shortly after the CD's release, four tracks were selected for marketing to the Hollywood film industry by Industrial Soundworks.com out of Burbank (Borderline Breakdown, California Morning, Mountain Pines, and Summer Blues). And the title track, Borderline Breakdown, was also featured for six weeks on PickTheHits.com out of Virginia. Since then, "Before I'm Gone" and "Mountain Pines" have received Honorable Mentions in the Billboard Songwriting contest (2001), and six Night Trap songs have competed in the monthly L.A.-based MakeAStar.com band/song competitions with "California Morning" reaching the final bracket.

Chip and Dickie have performed at local coffeehouses in Minneapolis, and at the Mall of America in Bloomington. With a huge repertoire of great songs in their back pocket, a new CD of original acoustic soft-rock songs is definitely in their immediate future, as should be continued songwriting awards and an increased following for their brand of classic-rock. Check out some great tracks on cdbaby.com, Amazon.com, Tower.com, and amonline.net. Downloads are available throughout the internet (iTunes, NetMusic, Rhapsody, Napster, etc.) And expect a couple of new CD releases (unplugged and a studio release) in the next few years, as well!
