A VERY RICH AND WELL COMPOSED DEBUT
Reviewer: East Side News

Think context. If you were to make an album, where would you ideally hear it being played? Would your soundtrack fit in at a club, a lounge, a dive bar, or something else altogether? Like the name of the album itself, "Encyclopedic" covers a lot of ground. It wouldn't be unreasonable to walk in off the street to any number of places and hear it getting some run. The genre of the music fits in the electronica category, but the mix of ambient melodies, head bobbing beats, and various moods jumps strict classification. From track to track you may hear anything from reggae tempos to Middle Eastern rhythms, to sampled video games. Think Air or Boards of Canada with more spokes. Because of the somewhat eclectic nature of the individual songs, his is definitely not a big label's album, and it never could be - which is neither good nor bad, but certainly notable. It hurts some of the music because continuity is disrupted from track to track by the various styles. But the upside to this is that it is a truly what music should be anyway - an art form. Clearly there has been nobody to tell Noble which direction to take their music, and they a have taken advantage of that, and done so with promising results. As they continue to record, expect Noble to evolve. And charting the progress of their path of the music will be interesting. The possibilities of where they can or will go are infinite - a great launching pad to be on for any musician. Encyclopedic is worth the pick up for any connoisseur of electronica or alternative music.
