No Deluxe Nothing is a quartet formed out of the ashes of a stranger, misdirected incarnation of itself previously named Squiji. The group has recently completed a self-titled CD that contains the strongest points of what Squiji was, along with a lot of new material. The barrage of crushing guitar riffs and sweet flowing melodies that were predominant in some of the earlier material has become the mainstay of the writing style. Like any group that grows rather than stagnating No Deluxe Nothing has become a better band with age.
The band was formed by front man Damon Hill who previously played guitar in Liquid Bone Dance, along with Bass player Marcia Fifer from Transister Sound and Lighting co. joined by Drummer Omar Khan and Guitar Player Chris Davies from My Brother Jane. Squiji gained a strong local following and a curious crowd at Canadian Music Week in 1999. From that point the band has been concentrating on writing and recording on a limited to non-existent budget to complete what is now their first full-length recording. With the release of their album pending they attended NXNE 2001, where they played at C'est What. Present at the show was Brian Pascual of Chartattack who reported, ÂNo Deluxe Nothing breathed a breath of fresh air into a stale club. The band now looks toward the future to play and re establish them selves in the Canadian Music Scene and beyond.
