Details:
2003 release that, after following the transcendent "Bitter Fruit", ups the ante to another creative level. Certainly, fans of "Bitter" will more than warmly embrace Bobby's truly unique jangle stylings, but for those not familiar with Sutliff, he was the co-leader in the 80's(along w/ Tim Lee) indie pop band The Windbreakers. No offense to that great band's memory, growing older, wiser has its benefits as his solo work is the kind of musical art that can only come from a talent that has been around the block. Influenced by Television(the guitar work of Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd to be more exact), Let's Active(Mitch Easter mastered this record), Big Star and The Byrds, "Perfect Dream" is filled with the gratifying stretches of accomplished, tasteful riffing and rich, haunting and evocative washings of gentle, inscrutable melodies. "Perfect Dream" is poignantly his best work in an long auspicious career. It's alternatingly beautiful and uplifting with waves of sweet singing, wistful jangle and complex but easy to simply enjoy melodies. A easy waft of fresh and refreshing musical air and not-to-be-misssed for most folks reading this now; the appeal of Bobby Sutliff's body of work is something not to be missed.

Fukfin.com sez: "In art, whether it's fine art or pop music, experience is a double edged sword. An artist is charged with the task of expanding horizons and changing. A comfort zone often turns to complacency. However, in the hands of the right artist, becoming immersed in one's style and abilities can be an advantage, when the skills are applied not merely to churn out product, but to put out something that is made to express real thoughts and feelings. It's not a knock on Bobby Sutliff to say that there isn't any radical experimentation or innovation on this disc. Or that he's taking the same pate that he has on past releases. That's because he has used his mastery of the guitar and his songwriting talents to make an album of marked warmth that is evocative and, at times, nostalgic.......he is one of those rare musicians who is making music now that is as engaging and vital as the stuff he made when he was a member of the flannel royalty"

Amplifier sez: "an unabashed celebration of the delights that can be delivered via a 3 1/2 minute song. Sutliff has long been, and remains, one of the greatest unheralded guitar geniuses in popular music today....Perfect Dream is a relaxed, intelligent collection of pop magic from an under-appreciated master"

"A-... Perfect Dream finds Sutcliff in a pensive frame of mind, and the
Byrds¹ modus operandi viz. chiming 12-strings, tight 4-part harmonies &
psychedelic nuances are utilized as backdrops for Sutcliff¹s mood pieces....
Be warned, Perfect Dream offers no quick fix but demands serious attention
to divine its jewels and pearls but yes, it is certainly worth the time and
effort."- Power Of Pop
