Details:
Relax!...LEND ME YOUR EARS...Enter a parallel universe of Martian Sharks and Burning Lemons, sounds so strange yet strangely familiar...like musical DNA...a Colony of Raging Groundhogs drift into your Dreams...Park your critical mind & expectations in a ditch and just ... listen. And again...
I hope you enjoy my album. You may need 3 or more listens to lock into this new and groovy vibe. My stuff IS original yet accessible with a purity of spirit and a jones for adventure. These are my SOUNDS.
General influences: Gentle Giant, Genesis, Yes, Frank Zappa, Happy The Man, Finch, Mike Oldfield, Miriodor, Maneige, various Cuneiform label artists, RIO, Henry Cow, Harry Partch, Steve Reich, Keith Jarrett, Thelonious Monk, Terry Adams, Misha Mengelberg, Patrick Moraz, J.S.Bach, et. al.
(Constantly expanding) LINER NOTES.
ALL-AMERICAN CONTENT PROVIDER.
Tracks 4, 15, 8, 11 & 13. Inspired by the brilliant Gentle Giant, as well as Frank Zappa, Steve Reich (and other minimalists), et.al.
21. Ivory Waves. Inspired by Mike Oldfield. Alternating major and minor chords in a 56-beat cycle wash over the listener as additional voices are layered on and âchimeâ in. Happy Times
20. C-Rex. Inspired by Stravinskyâs âRite Of Springâ as well as the rubbery watches of Salvador Dali. A Beatle-esque moment sneaks in. (a single-take improv + post-improv software manipulation.)
19. Spring. A fugue. Melodic content inspired by Anne Schmitt.
14. âLoungeâ aboard a cruise ship - till the pirates arrive. (âR!â)
12. The right pesticide will cure your depression.
10. Hmm. S.L.H. Santaâs Little Helperâ¦Satanâs Little Helicopter. Coincidence or synchronicity? A tongue-in-cheek ride through hell and back. Whatâs it to ya, (Beelze)Bub?
9. especially, and 16. Inspired by jazz pianist Misha Mengelberg as well as Patrick Moraz (of Yes) with whom I share a birthday (6-24).
7. Sea Colony. Inspired by the folk/Afro-pop of Madagascar.
5. My Lemon Is On Fire. Best heard here: woofer & tweeter.
3. Road Rage. (a fan favorite) Put the pedal to the metal. Formerly titled âRen Hoek Goes To Templeâ. Kee-r-r-unch.
2. 66 On Ice. Smooth. Like Mario Lemieux. Hence, 2 endings.
1. Dreams Adrift. Indeed they are. Itâs time for radical change, for love to create peace, and stewardship to enrich the planet.
General influences: Gentle Giant, Miriodor, Maneige, various Cuneiform label artists, RIO, Henry Cow, Zappa, Yes, Happy The Man, Finch, Genesis, Harry Partch, S. Reich, M. Oldfield, Keith Jarrett, Thelonious Monk, Terry Adams, M. Mengelberg, P. Moraz, J.S.Bach, et. al.
I hope you enjoy my album. You may need 3 or more listens to get it. Best heard privately on good headphones, free of outside influences. Comments can be sent to Joe S. at schmiak2 (at) comcast (dot) net. (Donât be too harsh â it wonât help and Iâm very self-criticalâ¦)
