Details:
The Verbal Felonz, formed in 2007, are made up of some of the most talented emcees in Oregon, working together to make one of the greatest hip hop groups of their generation. The main members of the The Verbal Felonz include Young Roi, Karess, The Plot, and Mickey Dee, who all met at school field trips at their highschool in Portland, Oregon. The group started when Karess asked to borrow Mickey's iPod only to find that they both were fans of Eminem. Mickey and Karess began discussing music, discovering that they both made their own hip hop music on the side. Shortly after, Mickey and Karess began recording tracks in Mickey's home studio, Kitchen Kutz, aka "The Boof". On their first day in the studio together they created "Pancake House", which can be found on their debut album, WordPlay. The next song they cut was "Felony Block", which can be heard playing in the background of the Intro track to Mickey Dee's solo album, "The BarrCode".
Soon after, Mickey and Karess joined with Portland emcee Young Roi (then known as T-Roi) to record the track "Like Thugs" over one of Mickey's trademark original beats, which became an instant underground classic. The song was played on a local radio station the first day it was finished in the studio, and put on Mickey Dee's debut solo album, "The BarrCode", before the release of The Verbal Felonz' group album "WordPlay". Finally, the trio recruited The Plot, a long time friend of Mickey's, to the crew, and the Verbal Felonz were formed. Together, Mickey and Plot formed UnBranded Records, which became the indie label to which The Verbal Felonz are signed. Later, other members were added to the crew of Felonz including Million from New York, Yung B!rd from the Bay Area, and Alex Sosa from Portland. These members however, eventually left the group after the release of their first album, WordPlay.
The group is still growing to this day, but the heart and soul of this hip hop crew remains strong. Combining violent, humorous, and political messages along with an unmatchable skill for creativity and lyricism, The Verbal Felonz remain one of the best groups on the underground scene to date.
