Details:
NUMBer characterizes themselves as a cross between Weezer and Sonic Youth. The Weezer simple punk guitar, affection for retro/high-school themes, and repetitive melodies (altho at the beginning our vocalist sounds a bit more like the guy from the Swirlies) is evident in "Song for the Left Handed," a charitable multi-meaning ballad for a oft-neglected minority group.

The lyrical theme is about the disenfranchised Âleft' behind, an appropriately punk sentiment. [Perhaps they would object to being called Âpunk' since they have categorized themselves as ÂIndie.' Anyhow, Indie is more punk than punk these days; punk itself has become a cliché and reductive category.] The lyrics are about being Âleft' or abandoned, with a clever double entendre on how hard it is to shake hands (when you're left handed), or how hard it is to meet people when you feel cut off, abandoned, different, and excluded.

The sound on all the instruments is studio-quality, the take is good, the composition is thoughtful; the band clearly put some time and money into the recording.

We all know that the majority of music listeners out there are not listening to this category, but even recently a band like Blink-182 was able to move from local success to national airplay. If NUMBer persists, they have what it takes for local stardom, and as much a shot as anyone can at the big-time, if that's what they want.

I wish their website were already complete so I could get more information, photos, bio, etc. I find myself really wanting to become a fan of certain bands, and this is only possible if the artists can paint a susbstantial picture of themselves. It's not clear how well NUMBer is doing - how many shows are they playing, how many fans do they have, etc. If they can build up their image online and convey more of who they are, etc. they could start to build a national following.
