Greetings, O' reader of our page!

We are very proud to present this début CD, Anno Domini. The entire band has worked very hard on it and are way stoked that it is here on CD Baby! This CD has many traditional tunes both in the Celtic and the medieval style. I, the piper and singer for the band, have been interested in Celtic music ever since I can remember, but the medieval interests didn't come until the year 2000. My wife, the whistle player in the band, had gotten me a set of German, medieval bagpipes as a wedding present. WOW! I then began to do some research on traditional medieval music and a lot of that research has made it onto this CD.
Odon Soterias hopes that you will enjoy this up-beat CD.

THE INSTRUMENTS...

Medieval Bagpipes:

The bagpipes on this CD are neither from Scotland nor Ireland, but rather were handmade by pipe maker Ralph Sp@th in Heidenrod, Germany. Despite common misconception, bagpipes did not originate in the British Isles but in the Middle East. One of the earliest mentions of them can be found in the Bible (Daniel 3:5). One of the differences between Scottish Highland pipes and German Medieval pipes (Dudelsack) is that the German pipes come in different keys, whereas the Scottish are always keyed in Bb. On this album you can hear two different pipes in Am and one pipe in Dm. Unlike the Highland pipe's drones which are all in A, the Dudelsack's two to three drones are keyed to create a fifth cord, for the A-pipe this would mean one drone in E and one or two more in A. Listen carefully and see how the Medieval pipes' unique "dark" and "majestic" sound.

Whistles:

The whistles on this CD are Irish whistles, also called Tin whistles or Pennywhistles
Odon Soterias and Recorders. Legend has it that Pennywhistles were invented by the Irish when their English Oppressors outlawed the playing of traditional Irish music. Unlike the full-sized Irish flutes Pennywhistles were small and light so that their players could hide them in their pockets and then bust out with Irish tunes whenever the Englishmen were out of sight.


Percussions:

Yes, we have quite few instruments to bang on, and if you've been to one of our shows, you know we love to use them all. Here's what we've got:
Two Djembes, a Dumbeck, an Irish Bodhrán made by a Bodhrán maker in Roundstone, Ireland (www.bodhran.com), a very loud gong and cymbal, and our biggest & loudest drum, our homemade barrel drum.

Violin & Fiddle:

Yes, Jennifer indeed plays both, the violin AND the fiddle. But for honesty's sake we should probably add that, although some would claim a significant difference between the two, other than their names being spelled and pronounced quite differently, the fiddle and violin are completely identical.

Anno Domini was named after the Computer Game 1503 A. D. which Odon Soterias (when it was still only Daniel & Annika) recorded the music for. Unfortunately we ran out of songs to play before the end of the recording, and so, out of necessity, the first part of Anno Domini was birthed right there in the recording studio in Germany.
