If you're a fan of melodic and sophisticated jazz you'll definitely enjoy this debut CD from pianist John Opferkuch that features guitarist Peter Sprague, formerly with Chick Corea.
9 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Jazz Fusion, JAZZ: Bebop
Details:
I'd been a sideman for years and performed with lots of great musicians, but never put together a CD until this one. I conceived of this album as a suite of tunes that would be simple and melodic, yet sophisticated and really fun to improvise on. I had the exact ensemble in mind from the beginning, and really wanted to feature Peter Sprague, a brilliant guitarist who's played with everyone from Chick Corea to Sergio Mendes (see www.PeterSprague.com) I think that Peter's playing on this CD is just incredible, and I hope you will too.
All the tunes except two (Igor's Day Off and BDA Blues) were written in the months just after 9/11. I wanted to write material that came from that raw emotional space without being sappy or contrived.
I'm really pleased with how this album turned out, and I hope you'll enjoy listening to it.
