Details:
Pat Ortman's 2001 debut CD reached #1 on Amazon's Bestselling Indie Alternative Rock chart.

Pat's 2003 CD, 'The Wow Signal', gets it's title from the 1977 discovery of a radio telescope signal with possible extraterrestrial origins. The 1977 signal captured the imagination of millions of people and lead to both a major motion picture (Contact, starring Jodie Foster) and an ongoing organization (SETI) dedicated to finding the source of the wow signal and making contact with extraterrestrial life. Even today, tens of thousands of people scan the skies every night with the help of Internet software called SETI@Home, searching for the wow signal's return.

Pat's 10 new songs on 'The Wow Signal' explore relationship issues and our universal search for meaning, self, and community in a complicated world. Richly woven spacey songs like 'It Begins', 'More', and 'Victim' call to mind classic Radiohead, Coldplay, and Peter Gabriel. The title track 'The Wow Signal' is really 2 songs in one, with a coda that evolves into a curtain of radio noise before 'Grape Jelly' brings the listener back down to terra firma. Most of the CD was recorded and mixed DIY-style in a spare bedroom in Los Angeles, with Pat pulling multiple duties as artist, engineer, and producer for most tracks. Other musicians who contributed to the CD include Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac, courtesy Sonic Foundry), Bill Whitehouse, and George Pendergast (courtesy Sonic Foundry).
