Details:
"Parry's theatrical approach to song writing and her clear vocals are a joy to listen to!" CBC Radio

evalyn parry weaves together the personal with the political, the poetic with the hilarious in her compelling combination of music and spoken-word. Melding "honesty and conviction and street-smart coolness"(CBC Radio), her work captures the human experience with "relevance, intensity and wit"(Ottawa Folk Festival).

Since the release of her debut album things that should be warnings (Ponygirl Records, 2001) evalyn was chosen as the 2001 recipient of the Beth Ferguson Award for Upcoming Songwriter (Ottawa Folk Festival); the album was chosen as a CBC (that's The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation for you U.S.ers)Radio "Disc of the Week" and has charted in the top 10 on campus and community radio stations around the country. "things that should be warnings" is a refreshing, eclectic mix of evalyn's signature material, from upbeat satire to haunting acoustic ballads to savvy poetic commentary, all delivered in her assured, arresting voice.

Evalyn's distinctive poetic/political spoken word pieces are regularly broadcast on CBC Radio, while her unabashedly queer perspective is winning her an enthusiastic, loyal following where ever she performs. Whether she's costumed as a life sized, singing maxi-pad or delivering a stark, unaccompanied song, evalyn's live performances are as intimate as they are bold, funny and thought-provoking.

"Blessed with a clear, nimble voice, Parry imbues her work with sharp imagery, a flair for storytelling and humorous social commentary"
The Ottawa Citizen

"Captivates audiences with her brilliant insights"
Xtra Magazine

"Warm, witty and....troubled. Sandra Bernhard with a heartbeat!"
CBC's Jane Farrow

Raised on a hearty diet of traditional Celtic and North American folk music and storytelling, evalyn has been singing and performing since she was knee-high to her folk-singing parents. She carries this rich tradition into contemporary territories, writing with poetic candor about issues of sexual identity, eating disorders, relationships and the new economic world order.

When you see her perform, or hear her theatrical songs and stories, it will come as no surprise that she is a theatre graduate. In addition to performing music and spoken-word, evalyn keeps her fingers in many theatrical pies as a performer, writer and teacher. Her gay musical comedy "The Freelance Lover" was staged to rave reviews in October 2001; "Clean Irene and Dirty Maxine" (co-written with Anna Chatterton) was a hit of the Buddies in Bad Times Theatre's Rhubarb! Festival 2002. evalyn also leads a theatre based-workshop exploring body image with young women. She has lead and presented this workshop at schools, conferences and community centres all around the USA and Canada. She holds her degree in Drama-in-Education from Montreal's Concordia University.

When she's not on the road around North America with her music, spoken-word and theatrical performances, evalyn resides in Toronto, where she likes to ride her bike.
