Details:
George Petit grew up playing music...first as a singer performing in New York's Carnegie Hall and Palace Theater...then to London where he worked professionally in cover bands from the age of 13. Petit studied music at Vassar College and the Musicians Institute in L.A....and then moved to New York City where he worked at the famous Kampo Studio as an audio producer/engineer, producing Jazz (including Donald Harrison and Terrence Blanchard's BLACK PEARL on Columbia Records...winner of record of the year in France in 1989).

Petit moved to Vermont in 1989 where he set-up his own recording facility working on television, radio and industrial films as well as local musical artists for ten years. He performed with many local groups leading a 13-piece ensemble playing original and Brazilian jazz music...also performing with his own quartet "The Desired Effect" and local favorites "The Bruce Sklaar/David Grippo Sextet", "Pure Pressure" and "Anne's Band". He has shared the stage at the Discover Jazz Festival and other events with the likes of McCoy Tyner, John Scofield, Betty Carter, James Carter, Joe Lovano, Tito Puente, Joshua Redman, The Heiroglyphics Ensemble, David Murray, Chris Thomas, Brian Blade, Mike Clark, Mike Formanek, David Fink, and many, many others. During his stay in Vermont, Petit was signed to Alcazar Records (alas, now gone) and recorded PATACHOU which was released in 1997 to glowing reviews in Downbeat, Billboard, and JazzTimes magazines. In 1997 Petit moved back to New York City to work as Director of Broadcast for a Manhattan Ad agency, producing over 100 spots for television and advertising, winning a few "TELLY" awards...and in 2001 opened his own fully commercial Jazz Recording Studio, WALKERECORDINGS LIMITED located on fifth avenue in Manhattan (www.walkerecordings.com). Petit has engineered and produced dozens of Jazz groups and solo artists in his studio with many international releases to his credit - always well reviewed. He is now an active engineer/producer with his own world-class recording studio. Petit has recently produced and/or engineered recordings in New York for: Dave Allen, Justin Flynn, Joan Crowe, Richard Malavet, Allison Miller, Enrique Haneine, Carlo Vutera, Carlo Derosa, Donny McCaslin, Eric MacPherson, Brian Drye, Khabu Doug Young, Bob Bowen, Whitney Ashe, Jon Davis, Jay Leonhart, Mark Ferber, David Ambrosio, Johannes Weidenmuller, Hans Glawischnig, Nate Radley, Guaranteed Swahilis, Jamie Fox, Bob Marbach, etc...etc...

PATACHOU is his first record as a leader. Playing primarily guitars on the recording (with occasional performances on keyboards and percussion), Petit brings 8 originals to the fore on this CD (with one tune penned by his brother and tremendous pianist, Michael) with styles ranging from straight-ahead to Brazilian to solo guitar to full-horn ensembles. All tunes save "Juan-les-Pins were composed, engineered, arranged and produced by Petit in his own studio.

Petit is currently recording a second effort of his own material (when work allows!) in his New York studio due to be released here on CD BABY and on Amazon, etc etc before Winter '04/'05.

Thanks for reading and listening...please contact Petit at www.walkerecordings.com for performance schedules and information...enjoy the music!
