Details:
"learning curve" was produced by John Croslin (Guided by Voices, Pavement, Spoon, John Vanderslice, Damnations) at Sweatbox Studios in Austin, Texas. It was engineered by Mike Vasquez. The front cover is a postcard of the Voskamp brothers house on Block Island, Rhode Island at the turn of the century. John and Peter first began playing music there to wile away the desolate winters. Step-brother Berke Marye joined the Voskamps in Texas and Peglegasus was born (the band's name was derived by a drunken dyslexic friend attempting to pronounce his astrological sign) ; Henry Duys played bass for many years before being replaced by bassman extraordinaire Bryan Nelson. Bryan's nimble bad-assedness is on display here for all to be impressed by--ditto the guitar work by both John and Berke. Long time friends of Mike Watt (who played a cameo on their first album "Bacon Lettuce and Tornado") Peglegasus continues to play their brand of SST meets Wire meets Pere Ubu. Actually, to paraphrase Keith Moon, they are easily "the best Peglegasus style band in the world."
