Details:
I joined my first band in 8th grade, The Marauders. We played surf music, Ventures, Astronauts, etc. My best friend asked my to join even though I didn't know how to play guitar. Every day after school I went over to his house and he showed me chords and song progressions. After one week of practice I played my first gig. I've been hooked ever since. I was rhythm guitar and co-songwriter for a pretty successful Chicago band in the 60s, The Om. We played all the major clubs, shared the stage with groups like The Byrds, Country Joe and the Fish, and other national groups. We went west for our share of fame and fortune and broke up in LA. I moved to Seattle. Had a band in the 70s, Sweet Thunder. Played originals and covers at local clubs and various functions. That band broke up after a few years. I laid low for a number of years, just jammed with some friends occasionaly, but continued to write songs. Joined a celtic band in the 80s. Played Welsh and Scottish music. At first I played guitar, but I switched to bass, too many treble instruments were already in the band. I wrote arrangements with harmonies, counter-melodies, modulations, etc . . . this was not immediately loved by the band. Way too untraditional. Then I even started in with new pseudo-celtic compositions as well. Well, eventually that band broke up as well. In about '94 - '95 I wrote and recorded most of the songs I've put here for your enjoyment. Mostly accoustic, but they don't quite fit any genre very well. My penchant for odd progressions, thick harmonies, and mixed meter is evident. I've also added some bouzouki as the featured instrument on a quite a few of tunes, and somtimes I use a peculiar guitar tuning as well (open D6add9). I composed all eleven songs on Give Away. Linda Waterfall produced the CD and arranged all the back-up vocals. She and others sang the back-ups. So, now it's the 21st century. I'm kinda back to my roots (but I don't have any new recordings yet). I've got a cover band, Dubious Funk. It's a kick. My daughter is one of the singers. We're just beginning to gig in the Seattle area. Fairly ecelectic mix of tunes: mostly funk, some Motown, some blues, raggae, pop, rock, whatever we seem to like. But mostly dance tunes. Oh yeah, we'll add some originals after a bit.
