Jacksonville, Florida is a strange little patch of America. It's a "little-big" town,
filled with southern charm, geographic potential and all applicable forms of hope
but stifled by the antiquated machinery of old-time religion, suburban sprawl, and good-ole-boy greased corporate wage slavery. All in all, just an average southern town with chi flow issues.

This is the Jacksonville that Shawn Lightfoot found in the steamy summer of 2000.
A Philipine-born North Carolina transplant with California roots, Lightfoot settled into
Jacksonville almost against his will, but stayed with the intention of following his dao
and creating music. His sweet lyric tenor and his pseudo-classical music sensibilities
found a home in the indie music halls, clubs, pubs, coffee shops and theaters of a Jacksonville music scene littered with indie, rock, jazz, blue grass and roots music. In time he won over local audiences with a new-found southern twang, performing solo and with his band The Lightfoot Brigade. Though performing and touring extensively, solo and with droves of performers, he never took the time to record his growing catalog of original music.

In December 2008, Shawn Lightfoot presents to all, and anyone who has an inkling of an
interest, his first recording, 'That Old Sweet Southern Style'. Lightfoot explores his heart
and mind on this album which he hesitates to describe as indie-pop Americana. When you listen to the album, Lightfoot's affinity for blues, alt-rock, folk and jazz is easily
recognizeable. In "Shogun: The Love Story", the narrator casts off society's expectations
and searches for his own truth. In "Johnny Goes West", our hero leaves his small town to
pursue the double-edged sword of fortune and fame. With "Sweet Em'ly Brown", Lightfoot pokes fun at post 9-11 USA while serenading the ideal of the progressive "southern bell". The bluesy, flirtatious dobro-slide guitar underscores the playfulness of Lightfoot's drunken serenade, "Get Sexy With Me". Stylistically reminiscent of Jeff Buckley, "Picture Show" yearns for higher love and higher consciousness, and "The Star Light Waltz" cradles the listener in a reverb-drenched dreamscape.
