Phil Risen is a singer/songwriter from the New York City area. His debut CD "Things Are Different Now", blends a world beat feel with a blues sensibility.

Working with award-winning guitarist/producer Larry Mitchell (Billy Squire, Rick Ocasek, Tracy Chapman), bassist James East, and keyboard player Martin Greaves, Phil has compiled a collection of songs that run the gamut of emotions from edgy longing to unabashed exuberance.

Phil Risen started out performing at clubs in his hometown of Port Jefferson, New York while still in high school, as part of an acoustic duo called Crosswinds. The duo grew into one of the premiere rock bands in the Long Island club scene, playing up to six nights a week to packed houses and rave reviews.

Phil wrote much of the band's original material, and one of his songs was chosen for Long Island radio station WBAB's Home Grown album. But while his band was highly successful, Phil wanted to expand his musical horizons and deepen his technical skills as a guitarist and vocalist.

He left the band to go to Berklee School of Music in Boston, where he studied everything from production and arrangement to jazz guitar. It wasn't long, however, before his vocal pyrotechnics, often compared with Steve Perry from Journey, put him in demand as a lead singer among his classmates and on the Boston club circuit. While still in class, Phil performed as the lead vocalist for two popular Boston bands, The Catch and In the Pink.

His talents also caught the attention of Roger Earl, the drummer of the legendary band Foghat, who was looking to reform the band, and needed someone to step into Dave Peverett's substantial shoes. Phil got the gig, touring the United States and Canada for two years as lead singer for the new Foghat, garnering more fans and rave reviews in his wake.

"I've always been a huge fan of blues guitar players like Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn. One of my most memorable moments was having an opportunity to meet and play guitar with Stevie Ray Vaughn backstage after a show in Boston in the early 80's".

"One of my main influences to go out on my own as a singer/songwriter is Patty Larkin. I caught one of her shows at the Bottom Line in NYC and I was hooked. I knew right then, that was the path I wanted to walk".

Phil also composes theme music for television and documentaries.
