Semi-alternative pop (or that's what I call it anyway) with melodic inclinations
12 MP3 Songs
POP: British Pop, POP: Beatles-pop
Details:
Plight is the alias for New Zealand singer/songwriter, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Marc Beasley.
Marc has just released his first solo CD, The Romance of Travel.
Recorded and mastered in a small bedroom in a brick and tile unit in Takapuna, Auckland, New Zealand, this album showcases a compilation of influences and styles. Often referred to as semi-alternative pop, Marc's music offers something for any listener.
These first twelve tracks, all written and performed by Marc, reflect on topics ranging from never getting the girl to individual mortality to the fate of our planet. Marc traveled extensively to derive inspiration for the songs, although most of this travel occurred in his mind.

"Plight is the chosen name for local singer/songwriter/one-man band Marc Beasley, whose debut album is a triumph for DIY enthusiasts. As he laments - or is it boasts?- this album was "recorded and mastered in a small bedroom in a brick and tile unit in Takapuna, Auckland." Given that, it's an astonishing effort. Beasley is in the Neil Finn/UK Squeeze school of pop craftsmen and there's not a dud among these tracks! " D.O.B.

"Plight sounds like it could have been recorded by Julian Lennon or the Rembrandts, but it was recorded by a Kiwi fella in Takapuna, eh? As melodic and cohesive as any full band effort, "The Romance of Travel" was written and performed almost entirely by Marc Beasley. Impressive indeed. For having been recorded and mastered in a bedroom, the production is remarkable. Plight covers retro rock to country rock with ease, all under the "semi-alternative" pop banner. All 12 tracks here are strong, high-energy numbers with great guitaring and the aforementioned Lennon-ish quality to the vocals. Pretty classy. Check out www.plight.co.nz, or drop Mr. Beasley a line on Marc@plight.co.nz"
