This newly released CD, rich in history of traditional Cape Verdean music, has resulted in this artist, Alcides da Graca, bridging both traditional and contemporary music styles with sophistication as he has done with all of his prior CDs.

Alcides uses his passion for Cape Verdean music and tradition, his artistic flair and creativity, musical and vocal talent, together with his collaboration with Cesar Lima, to create a fusion of traditional music with a contemporary modern approach. They create a sound where the traditional island instruments (violin, viola, and cavaquinho) come together with the modern saxophone, percussion, keyboard, electric bass, bateria and guitar to share a common creative, harmonious and yet brilliantly compatible sound â yet all integrity of the traditional Cape Verdean sound has remained intact. The artistâs strong voice is beautifully projected throughout each track of this CD.

He showcases songs composed by: himself; by Djedjinho, a famous Cape Verdean violinist, songwriter and composer (who also happens to be Alcidesâ father); by Eugenio Tavares, a well known Portuguese poet who chose to make Cape Verde Islands his home and wrote many beautiful poems which were turned into lyrics for some of the most beautiful Cape Verdean songs and for this CD the track entitled âHora Di Baiâ; by talented songwriter and producer, Cesar Lima; just to name a few. He also features on vocals the fresh voice of new Cape Verdean female vocalist, Cristina Spencer, and features on background vocals his wife, Chilean born, Fresia Varela-da Graca. He is accompanied by great, talented and well known Cape Verdean musicians such as Laurindo da Graca, Ivo Pires, Tazinho and many others who greatly contributed to the making of this exciting collaborative project.

This CD takes you through a variety of emotions through each track from upbeat and energetic sambas and coladeiras, to the somber and romantic mornas, and inspirational ballads depicting life struggles and decisions that have faced and continue to face many Cape Verdeans both in Cape Verde as well as those that have emigrated throughout the world.

The title track âBeleza & Morabezaâ speaks of the beauty of the Cape Verde Islands and the kindness and friendliness of its people.
