Back in 2002, before there was Alma Desnuda (Spanish for "Naked Soul"), there were three guys from California, Paul, Joe and Chris, who met on a study abroad term in Cordoba, Spain. Despite the fact that the three weren't actively performing together, it was during this time that the content, or "alma" was first createdâ¦the nudity came later. The year spent traipsing around rural Spain, camping and road tripping, sleeping on trains, buses, and in parks, culminated in a modern day rite of passage for the life-thirsty adventurers, irreversibly igniting in them a passion for travel along with its many lessons. After having spent the last five years following their own paths through various countries (Australia, Peru, Ukraine, to mention a few), the three have recently reunited in the Bay Area with a newfound passion for creating music that is a celebration of life, a catalyst for change, and a source of hope.

The intentional use of Spanish in Alma D's name serves a dual purpose: to confuse peopleâ¦and to feel really cool that we can speak Spanish. "Alma Desnuda" also expresses a core ideal that drives each of the band member's lives: to undress their souls from the masks that we wear and the images that people try to live up to, and to instead live from a place of honesty, responsibility and celebration.

After gaining positive reviews from playing locally in the SF Bay Area, Alma D began thinking about expanding their sound. Initially, they had relied on a few simple ingredients: 2 guitars, a wooden box, an egg shaker and a couple of throats. But things changed when legendary bassist Tony Glaser came in to the mix, laying down phat grooves on his stand-up bass that perfectly complemented Alma's sound. This allowed his brother, percussionist Joe Glaser, to switch to drums, giving birth to a much bigger sounding Alma D jam band, which still has at its heart those original key ingredients: conscious lyrics, a catchy riff and some sexy rhythms. Now they've just completed their first demo and are looking to reach out even further into the music scene, bringing a versatility that allows them to switch seamlessly from an acoustic unplugged coffee shop feel to a full band jam sound as the situation requires. They know that when they stay in the present moment, their music will express itself in the right way, and they let their abiding faith in the goodness of their message take them where it will.
