Swingin' Jazz or Jazzy Swing, take your pick; it's the Big Band sound with half the carbs.
13 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Swing/Big Band, JAZZ: Big Band
Details:
This album is, in part, a tribute to the artists who came before. Pres, Bean, the Kid and the Brute, Hamp, Benny, Basie, and the rest. The album is also a forward-looking testament to the new generation who has picked up the torch to carry it for a minute or so before passing it on.
Inspired by Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Ben Webster, Lester Young, and Gene Ammons, PorkPie is a 9-piece ensemble which recreates the "Boss Tenor" sounds of the 50's and 60's. The name Porkpie comes from the round-brimmed hat that many jazz musicians, including Lester Young, wore during that era. Porkpie incorporates top talent from the jazz, swing, and jump-blues genres, combined with the arranging skills of the area's finest arrangers, to create a sound that's unforgettable! The band's sound is part Big Band, part small combo. A blend of new and old is created by mixing original music with classic swing. Porkpie's strong, swinging groove and danceable sound is a favorite among the Pacific Northwest's dedicated community of swing dancers.
