"It's original, pop-informed, power-hook-driven rock'n'roll, a cathartic alternative to therapy and certainly cheaper."

Porno Jazz

Originally formed in 2000 the band has gone through many lineup changes and hardships to get to the release of its debut CD "Cheaper than Therapy"

Formed by Erik Simon in late 2000 its original incarnation lasted only one show imploding after the vanishing of its original singer.

The band had a short resurrection in 2001 with some jam sessions that included guitarist Mike (Mel) Melling and their original bassist. The resurrection was put on hold at the end of the summer while Erik went to Europe.

Upon returning to the United States in early 2002 Erik and Mel began working with another lineup at which time many of the songs they still play to today were conceived.

Early in 2003 the band was joined by drummer Drew Fifer and began playing shows with their fourth singer and second bassist. The departure of their singer the day before they began recording what became "Cheaper than Therapy" was just another bump on the road of Porno Jazz.

In December of 2003 Erik met a singer named Mara Lileas at Elderly Instruments in Lansing, Michigan where he works. Upon talking they realized that she had called the bands singer wanted flier earlier that day.

Mara's vocal style and lyrics were the perfect complement to the band's hooky guitar driven sound.

Bassist Tom Reinsmith played on "Cheaper than Therapy" but departed the band in Early 2004. After and extensive search the position was filled by Paul Fagan, who has taken an active roll in pushing the band on toward achieving its goals.

The band is now gigging extensively to support "Cheaper than Therapy"
