Details:
David Porteous is a Canadian singer/songwriter who currently resides in Toronto, Canada.

Now 21 years old, David began writing music at age 11. Since 1999, he has produced and recorded 10 independent releases, including six LP's and four E.P's, had his first radio play on CBC Radio 2 at the age of 14, written numerous film scores, which includes an HBO pilot, music for a nationwide run television commercial, owns a recording studio, and has a honours diploma in sound engineering. This is high work ethic at its best.

On May 18th. 2004, David released a new full length album. It was recorded and co-produced by singer/songwriter legend Rob Lamothe (who has produced albums for Melissa McClelland, Mike Dailey, and Lisa Winn, and many more).

The new record, entitled "Missing April," is a collection of unique and compelling folk rock songs David has written over the past two years. "The goal of this record was to be as honest as possible," David said. "Honesty within the songs, performances, and the actual instruments. No midi, no programming, or synths. Almost everything was done in one take. Including the vocals. This gives the record some natural soul."

Recorded in Hamilton, this record is full of brilliant performances not only from David himself but from such musicians as Rob Lamothe, Dave Brown (ex-Gordin Lightfoot, and
Dr. Music drummer) and Grant Scott. "Missing April" was also mixed by Toronto singer/songwriter Jonathan Seet.

David also loves to perform live and he's credited with displaying a unique and energetic live performance. His showcase performance at the North by Northeast Music Festival in June 2004 was picked by NOW Magazine as a "Critic's Pick." He has also shared the stage with many great performers such as Emm Gryner, Matthew Barber, and Lindy,
to name a few.

In October 2004, David performed at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York prompting a review that said he is a "Precocious Toronto singer/songwriter [that] crafts emotionally biting tunes with the convictions of a seasoned pro."

Many professional musicians have noticed David's talent. In particular, Tegan And Sara have featured him on their website TeganAndSara.com many times, including support for the release of "Missing April."

As well, both Gavin Brown (producer of Billy Talent, 3 Days Grace, The Tea Party) and Ian Thornley (singer of Big Wreck), attended a recent performance. Ian Thornley was literally singing along to David's songs minutes after the show started. After hearing some of David's music, Wyckham Porteous (not related) said "It was great to see that there was another Porteous on the horizon, and that the songs were about something."

For the past year, David has also been playing lead guitar for singer/songwriter Simeon Ross' solo band. They toured Canada in the summer of 2004. In 2001, David won the Maryon Drysdale Award in Toronto for Best Song. He was honored for his lively instrumental "Not a Number," based on the classic television show, "The Prisoner."
