Chicagoâs hottest steel band has a new studio recording on Banbury Records that displays the elegance, sophistication, and exuberance of where the steel band movement is headed in the United States. The new CD, produced by band leader Paul G. Ross includes 10 new world jazz compositions with nine of them penned by Ross, one by band member Steve Flowers and a beautiful cover of Brian Wilsonâs âSurfer Girlâ arranged by Mark Smith.
Pan Go includes a âwhoâs whoâ of Chicagoâs leading pannists. The talents of Joe Sonnefeldt, Kevin Jocius, Mark Smith, Lana Wordel, Steve Flowers, Glenn Donaldson, and Ross are all displayed through exquisite ensemble work, well crafted soloing, and burning percussion grooves on this new recording.
Seconds is not only the title of the CD but an instrument in the family of instruments known as steel pans in their native Trinidad. A follow up to their 1998 debut release âFor the Day,â "Seconds" is a fresh look at world jazz in a steel band setting. Ross and friends have created a recording that showcases the diversity, and joy of steel band music.
