D.Shot was raised in Phoenix Az. In a poverty stricken neighborhood called Maryvale . Maryvale, for people that are not familiar with the Phoenix area, is a few square miles of low income housing located on the west side of the city. By the time D.Shot was in grade school he was off and running with the wrong crowd ,See if you where to ask him about his choices as a youth he would probably just say something to the affect of âI did what I had toâ . See its no secret that in his neighborhood it was be the hunter or the hunted in the words of D.Shot
âuse ya head famâ So by junior high D.Shot had been turned on to three things that would fuel his hunger for a better life . 1 music 2 women and 3 moneyâ¦..
Now D.Shot bought his first real rap album âEazy duz itâ. But the first rap artist D.Shot really felt a connection with was Too Short . Life is too short the song just hit home . And thatâs when D.Shot told his friends that he was a rapper and after a few confused looks and a hell of a lot of laughing and ridicule D.Shot spit his first rhyme . And of course I asked him if he remembered what that rhyme was he just sat back grinned real big and said âIt was about a chic I got withâ he later explained that he lied his ass off about hooking up with the finest girl in school and then rapped to his friends about being with this âchicâ. From then on it was official every where D.Shot went in his neighborhood he was known as that rapper kid.
At age fifteen D.Shot suffered a major blow to his belief in humanity. At a house party with two of his best friends he witnessed one of his friends get murdered . If I had to pinpoint a time when music took its hold on the life of D.Shot as a passion and not a hobby I would have to say then. âMy music was an instant relief from the pain of realityâ. Now as I sit in this room and look across the table I see a man in his twenties with a nice smile on one hand and a very blank emotionless stare on the other .
