TIME-LINES OF DEPRAVITY
1979-1996 - A perpetual adolescent isolates himself between a pair of stereo speakers and analyzes hours of fossilized records. Classical piano studies are perverted in the front room, swing jazz is tortured on a set of traps in the basement, while guitars are permanently-affixed to rotten boxes of fuzz.
1996, December - The purchase of a four-track (filled with dried chocolate milk) results in an interminable series of compositions and improvisations.
1997-1999 - Emerging from the bubble, the irritable teenager is shipped off to different post-secondary institutions to bring his playing and recording techniques into line with idiomatic preferences; a valiant effort resulting in a complete failure. Our âheroâ attempts various social experiments...
2000-2002 - Following a vacation of desperation in England, the half-man morphs into Depravity Brown, hiding his face and body in brown fringe to shield himself from justifiable criticism.
2002, May - The first complete Depravity Brown album, âDomestic Depravityâ, arrives in 2002, and contains a twenty-five minute catharsis of a snotty teenager's three personalities, âThe Tragedy, Travesty and Majesty of Derelict, Despondency and Depravityâ. All of the instrumental, vocal and production duties were handled exclusively by Mr.Brown.
2002, Summer - The DB album is shipped to various labels the world over to unanimous rejection and terrible reviews. Despite this, the opening track ââBitchinâ ââ and other album tracks receive air-play on college radio across Canada (they love it in Halifax) and (work this one out), Australia.
2003-2008 - DB also plays on at least ten different albums, tours and records with Balls Falls and Shawn Hewitt, breaking only to pay (a fraction of) âThe Priceâ across Canada and Australia with Wax Mannequin.
2008, June - The four-year recording saga of the second Depravity Brown album continues. While sitting on the completed masters, Mr. DB continues to froth during rehearsals for his demanding stage-show, preparing to ceaselessly tour his chamber of musical devastation.
