When you listen to Quiz you may not hear the sounds of struggle, but it's there. You won't hear a lot of crying about hard times, but he's been through them. Not just your average daddy-wasn't-there-so-I had-to-sell-drugs-to-feed-my-family kind of hard times but the kind that really can make a person angry; angry at the word, angry at God, but somehow Quiz has managed to not only survive his obstacles but made himself a better person by having conquered them.
Quiz was two years old when he was diagnosed with the rare, life-threatening disease called billiaeratrosia. The damge to his liver was so severe a transplant was needed. He got his transplant and though some didn't expect him to reach his 5th birthday, he's had a successful childhood doing television commercials and print work.
By age nine he had caught the bug for hip hop. His father, who managed a local record shop, would bring home instrumentals for Quiz to practice writing his lyrics to. As time went by, Quiz continued to hone his skills and by junior high school, he had already graduated from the playground ciphers to performing in clubs and local talent shows. He suddenly found himself being approached by managers, producers and major labels all wanting to work with him. Things were looking pretty good.....until.
In the summer of 1999 Quiz was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. He had contracted it from a blood tranfussion he received during his liver transplant. While his mother grew increasingly worried and emotional about the situation, it was was Quiz, the oldest of her four children, that found the deeper meaning and purpose behind it all. "That's when I knew I had a reason for being here. I told my mom not to worry because I'm not finished. I'm barely getting started" recalls Quiz.
Undeterred, he resumed pursuing his music career. This time with even more determination and fervor. Though born and raised in Los Angles, the 23 year old lyricist is certainly not limited with a provincial sound. He wants to make the kind of music that is felt universally. Afterall, what's the point in having a story to tell if the nobody's around to hear it. Thanks for stopping in.......
