A visionary producer, gifted arranger and prolific composer, Vietnamese Quoc Bao brings a rare combination of talent and taste to his work.
His writing and producing credits expanded to include such superstars as Thanh Lam, Tran Thu Ha, Hong Nhung, My Linh, Bang Kieu, Thu Phuong, Huy MC, Cam Van & Khac Trieu, TikTikTak Group, Ao Trang Trio, My Tam, and many, many others.
Bao maintains a residence in Hochiminh City, although he still regards his Hanoi origin as homeland.
When Bui Quoc Bao began mandolin and classical guitar lessons at the age of five, it quickly became apparent that his talents far surpassed those of other children his age. But he has to wait a very long time being autodidact until enrolling as a student at the Music College of Pedagogy of Hochiminh City at the age of 18, and three years later, he became a music instructor there.
In 1992, Bao began to write music columns and reviews for various Vietnamese newspapers, and within three years, he became famous in journalism. Throughout the early '90s he built a solid reputation as one of the best music reviewers in the business, portraiting such superstars as Tran Tien, Anh Tuyet, Ngoc Yen, Cam Van, Hong Nhung, Thanh Lam and My Linh. He also published two books which reflect Vietnamese contemporary music history.
From there, Bao added songwriting and producing to his musical accomplishments. His early production and writing client list included Tran Thu Ha, Thu Phuong, Huy MC, 3A Trio. In 1997, he received honor for producing Tran Thu Ha's "Em Ve Tinh Khoi".
Over the past six years, he has gone from achievement to achievement, including an amazing string of poetic songs and nice records.
Quoc Bao has been involved in a variety of projects for Phuong Nam Records, and in the year of 2000 he released the collection named Ngoi Hat Ca Benh Bong, featuring versions of his best-loved compositions. Vang Son, his more recent album, show a renewed interest in the traditional Vietnamese music.
