Ratula Sen, born in Calcutta, has studied khayal from Ustad Yunus Hussain Khan , and thumri from Naina Devi and D.T.Joshi. She has performed extensively in Europe and the U.S., as well as given many lecture demonstrations and workshops all over the world. Her performances have been broadcast over several European radio networks as well as the Voice of America .


The album contains comprehensive liner notes on the history and meaning of ghazal. All the items have been translated in English.


Ghazals are poems on love. Ratula concentrates on the various emotions of the poems as she sings them.
In this album, she has intentionally combined the romanticism of the classical lyrics sung in classical Indian ragas with the modern musical arrangements, to present an aesthetically pleasing blend of the old and the new.
