RUNâS T
Born in Ibadan, one of Nigeriaâs ancient cities, Runâs T grew up in a close knit Christian family. At the early age of eight, Run's T was already a singer in a church choir group in primary school. His strong vocal power endeared him to his churchâs choir master and fellow worshipers alike.
Through high school and university, Run's T continued with his love for music. During his brief stay at the University of Ibadan, he was inseparable from music; he formed a band with two of his friends called, âD Angelsâ. The group engaged itself mainly by touring other University campuses, particularly in Western Nigeria. Touring with his band mates, took away a lot of his time for academics. Eventually, he realized that he could not handle the demands of academics together with his passion for music, and so, sacrificed one for the other. He decided to devote his time for music, rather than remaining at university. This decision to pursue music, his first love, led him to leave the four walls of the University of Ibadan. Runâs T is liked by all; he is a born organizer that wants people to be happy⦠Where and whenever he meets a dull gathering, he turns it into a lively one. Definitely, he has a knack for making things happen. It is no wonder he was nicknamed original RUNS MAN by his friends and fans, meaning, âThe man who makes things happen, out of nothingâ. Today he goes by the nickname, âRUNâS Tâ.
RUNâS T shifted into high gear after leaving the University of Ibadan. In the proceeding years, he went all out to carve a niche for himself within the Nigerian music arena. His dedication to music was to get himself a series of spots at several high profile concerts in Nigeria, including the Benson & Hedges shows and Rothmans Groove Nigeria where he was 3rd in a show studded with 36 entrants. At this point in his musical life, he became convinced that the path he had chosen was the right one. Armed with this conviction, he decided to travel abroad to widen his world view and to use it as a way to enhance his musical career. Runâs T left Nigeria for Amsterdam in mid 2005. He later traveled to Canada where he met a fellow Nigerian producer who instantly spotted his natural vocal talent. This raw vocal talent was to be later fully exploited by his record label Odd Ruff Inc. in the creation of Afro Hop, Dance Hall and Loverâs Rock recordings.
Run's T grew up listening to Legends like Bob Marley, Beres Hammond, Sonny Okosun and Afrobeat King Fela Anikulapo Kuti who he calls his role model and describes him as phenomenal. When asked why he chose the radical Afrobeat legend as his role model, Runâs- T was quick to point out that Fela "The artist" stood for social justice and was a true freedom fighter; a man of the masses who was always fighting social ills, through his music.
Run's T is touching his fans around the world with his music. He is very active musically, representing his motherland positively in North America. He is constantly finding new ways of touching people with his music as well as performing on various stages in Canada and the US. Recently, he performed alongside Majek Fashek, Tu Face, Blaco and a host of other Nigerian artistes in Toronto Canada. His upcoming album titled âRearrangedâ, boasts of colabos with internationals like Flexy Da Godson, and the versatile Blaco, all based in the US and Canada respectively. Runâs T is quietly and constantly working hard: patiently waiting to deliver the kind of sound recordings that will put him in the class of some of the worldâs finest. In his words, âNo price is too high to pay for successâ.
Run's T plans to impact his musical knowledge sometime in the near future by way of a setting up a training school for young talents in Canada and Nigeria. "Music is my life" he says and "no slowing down" until he gets to the very top.
Run's T debut album titled "Rearranged" is scheduled to be released in Canada and Nigeria in December 2008.
