Stephen Wood is a composer and performer working out of Atlanta, Georgia and Columbus, Ohio. Stephenâs main compositional vehicle is The Stephen Wood Ensemble, as is evident with the brand new release of the ensembleâs debut CD â âInaudibleâ. âInaudibleâ is an impressive full-length record featuring an orchestrated nonet masterfully improvising over Stephen Woodâs evocative compositions. Woodâs strengths lie in his versatility, attention to nuance, and thorough understanding of many styles and genres â from the classical to contemporary. Committed to expanding traditional forms, Wood continues to push the relationship between groove and sound-scape in his compositions. His creative voice reveals a detailed attention to harmony and rhythm, and a great passion for the expressive power of sound.
Stephenâs previous band, Postal, began his commitment to new music in 2004 with the release of Postalâs debut CD â âTheory of Chaconneâ. Postal was a young vehicle that allowed Stephen to hone his skills in expressive sound and the expansion of traditional musical forms. Currently, The Stephen Wood Ensemble operates with two satellite ensembles, a veteran group of Columbus, Ohioâs nationally acclaimed musicians who have been performing Stephenâs music for many years, and a newly formed group of Atlanta, Georgiaâs young lions. Stephen is developing his fan base in the Southeast and Midwest by booking touring dates between Columbus, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia.
