Details:
In 1989 we sent an emissary to Jupiter, and for the past fourteen years, the Galileo Orbiter has been our eyes and our ears, unraveling the mystery of the giant planet and its many satellites. On September 21, 2003 the craft left the orbit of Jupiter and flew directly into the planet. It was destroyed upon its entry into the atmosphere, but Redshift Productions' 'Galileo: The Emotional Life of a Spacecraft' will keep its legacy alive. This hour long performance is Galileo's story told in song and seen through its own eyes. This album is the complete musical soundtrack from the performance.

The music of Galileo has been described as a cross between The Who and Gilbert and Sullivan. With roots in jam based rock and traditional operatic formats, the 16 tracks on the CD range from funk to folk to rock to Broadway show tune. By developing the songs as variations on several structures, Redshift Productions was able to explore many musical styles while maintaining a strong musical through line.

'Galileo: The Emotional Life of a Spacecraft' premiered September 17, 2003 at the Martin E. Segal Theatre at CUNY Graduate Center. The performance, as well as interviews with its creators, appeared on 'CBS Sunday Morning' and ABC's 'Nightline' the following week. 'Galileo' has also been performed at such clubs as CB's Gallery and Remote Lounge in NYC, and will be performed around the country over the next year.

Neil deGrasse Tyson, Astrophysicist and Director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York writes, "Redshift Productions has once again raised science to an art. In their latest creative effort, a rock opera titled 'Galileo: The Emotional Life of a Spacecraf't, they manage to personify Galileo, an interplanetary robotic emissary to the outer solar system, giving it the voice and words we all know it would have if it could tells us of its cosmic journey."
