EASY LISTENING: Lounge, POP: with Electronic Production

Details:
This idea for the CD started out years ago during my analog studio gear days. I love old synth sounds. I've owned a bunch of them. Most of early my music was just too quirky to be appreciated by anyone except myself. I loved listening to early electronic music but I also had a thing for jazz and lounge music.
About 4 years ago, I finally had an idea. Why not drop the cheesy analog sounds and blend in some jazz style? Seems to be working out alot better for me, soundwise. But, in the process of making music, I found that I have more of a love for sound engineering. "The mix is King", they say in the 'Biz'. So true. A good mix can rescue a poor song, but a bad mix makes good song bad, period.
Anyway, what I thought originally, was that I would try to get together with some other musicians and make an album. I couldn't find anyone that I could get along with long enough to get anything started. Seems everyone was too worried about printing t-shirts and chasing women instead of making music so I struck it out alone.
I had to wear all the hats for this one and it takes alot of time when you do that. I became song writer, composer, musician, producer, and finally sound engineer.
I am not a DJ. I have nothing against DJ's. It's just a title that is used too loosely these days as a blanket term for pretty much anyone that uses loops or samples in their music. Sort of like 'Alternative' became a misused music category by the industry some years ago.
Song Notes- 'Shuang Song' was written for my wife. Her Chinese name is 'Shuang' but her English name is 'Cindy'. I thought 'Shuang Song' sounded better than 'Cindy's Song'. It's also a nod to the later Sakamoto sound. 'My Yellow Jacket' is a nod to 'The Yellowjackets', whom I really dig.
'Epiphany' and 'Shanghai' don't actually fit real well on the album but I tried to make them work. They both use heavy choir sounds and I had to rework them from their earlier state which was more of a heavy techno sound. Adding acoustic drum work and organ put them more in-line with the 'Electromotive' sound.
I hope you enjoy listening to this CD as much as I enjoyed making it. All feedback is welcome.
Cheers,
J. Fields
