This CD is currently out of print. The good news is that a new CD is in the making and will be available in the near future. In the meantime please visit Adrien at a show if you are in the Philadelphia, NJ or NY area. You can find the schedule on www.adrienreju.com.
Adrien Rejú is one songwriter capable of handling live radio, festival performance, listening room venues, solo work, band projects, and studio sessions. She has a boundless capacity to entertain audiences through her whimsical lyrics, communicable melodies and a guitar style that blends Latin-American and classical training with an inherent keenness for folk, alternative rock, blues, country, and jazz. In the past three years the Bennington, VT born/New York City raised chanteuse has toured from the southern states up to the Canadian border and has shared the stage with acclaimed acts Ben Arnold, Amos Lee, and Geoffrey Gaines to name just a few. Currently based in Philadelphia, Rejú has become a regular fixture at the city's legendary listening room, the Tin Angel, and has played in New York City at Joe's Pub where she captivated an audience including multi-platinum artist Norah Jones.
At an early age, the budding singer became enamored with the voices of Billie Holiday, Dolly Parton, and Cyndi Lauper, all of whom she tried to imitate. If there is one thing she has learned from these divas, it is to find beauty in the distinctive qualities of your own voice. The unique beauty of Adrien's voice has immediate impact especially in live performance. She reinvigorates the roots of popular music with influences ranging from Patsy Cline to Joni Mitchell, and gives a knowing nod to contemporary songsters such as Aimee Mann, Gillian Welch and Erin McKeown. Audience favorites like "Lay Me Down," "Floating," "In the Shadows," and "Little Deer Isle" generate a refreshing and nostalgic feeling that has listeners wondering how such a young woman can compose contemporary songs that sound so timeless.
Her song "Why" has received airplay on WXPN 88.5's "Philly Local", and her debut EP release, "Rejú", was featured in the "Favorites of 2003" play-list on WDIY 88.1 (Lehigh Valley, PA). Rejú sings on the Philadelphia City Paper's Top Local Release by Mia Johnson, (DRIVER-2004) and is featured on several other independent recording projects. Additionally, she has graced the stage for two successive years at the Celebrate Fairfax Festival in VA.
But is it nature or nurture? Her father is a respected classical cellist, her mother is a singer, her cousin is in the Grammy winning Emerson Quartet, her great uncle was a recognized composer of jazz standards, and she is a direct descendant of the famed 19th century French actress Rejane. Despite Adrien Rejú's notable genealogy and list of credentials, many believe that it is her subtlety, her warm relationship with the audience and the care that she puts into every note that truly crowns her achievements.
