I've been around for a while, played guitar, sang and performed in the sixties and seventies first rock&roll then blues, R&B, Jazz, Jazz fusion made it as far as The Newport Jazz & Blues Festival in the seventies. Just got tires of the music business, moved on, started a family etc. Through personal tragedy I took up playing and composing music again after a thirty year break of trying to live happy and honorably. It was time to take up the creative sword again. The above song is the second attempt, a more elaborate composition than the first version. This version is more inline with what the DVD mix is about. A six track video mix that will be coming out soon. You might call the song the Zen version of a motorcycle ride or whatever belief you base your personal convictions on. In the old days late sixties early seventies I rode a bike because it made me feel good to get away for a while and contemplate where my head was at. But unfortunately it looked like what is called a chopper which was the image that made people uncomfortable in the day. I didn't care about looks at the time or other closed perceptions, I just liked riding. It started out simple enough find a bike fix it up but it soon became a quest with a few twists and turns along the way. The find was a 1936 Harley Davidson Flat head 80 inch Police Special that had been set up as a hill climber. This bike was actually found on an old farm under bales of hay in the loft of an old barn. It looked like and was the size of a regular old bicycle of the day with a motor in it and a large head light, you have seen this motorcycle in old 1930s movies. For you kindred spirits out there I ended up working in a machine shop where the prime customer was other kindred spirits. I rebuilt the bike using a smorgasbord, of old Harley Davidson parts. I kept the title and motor, installed the motor into a early knucklehead frame, the old bike frame, rebuilt the motor using forged pistons from the six cylinder corvair/porsche motor of the sixties, intake and exhaust valves from a Ford dump truck Flat Head motor, transmission, shifter and wide glide front end from 1950s Pan-Heads, to which I added whatever parts needed to be rebuilt, 10 inches to the front tubes with risers and "Z" bars. It doesn't look like it but it was a very comfortable, a natural bike to ride and you got use to rising up off the seat when hitting bumps in the road. But when the road was smooth it was like gliding you just leaned back and enjoyed the glide, you seemed to flow with the road. It had four and one half inches of stroke and torque out the wazoo. It started with one kick in any weather, loved the cold and on a very cold day ran like the wind. It was a surprise to many a Pan Head and a real pain in the butt to many a Shovel Head, and the reason bikes went back to the shop to have the engine rebuilt. The stigma of being outrun by what looked like a utility motor from some construction site. The next transformation was to put in a magneto from John Deer tractor motor, it was a very good unit which fit in right where the distributor already went. Added to that the final transformation was to be a roots blower which fit right where the generator went, the engine was only 7 to 1 compression, so it was ready for a low output blower the perfect match. By that time though after about four or five years of riding I was really tired of the perceived life style and the interaction with people it caused. In those days before the Japanese bikes owned by the guy next store the only bikes on the road were the police and the other people who rode bikes, very few. The way people drive even now is the most dangerous part about riding a bike, in the old days it was a joke even the trucks would run you off the road. So in defense of this you learned just like now to ride in a very aggressive manner just to stay alive. Not to be rude or aggressive just to stay out of the way, of what people don't see. I guess there are many reasons people ride a bike, I only rode in the winter time until it stayed below freezing at that point you would get face burn at road speed because of wearing a Shorty helmet. But at sunrise in the winter on one of those bright cold days riding was freedom of spirit. So the Blue Ride is my explanation of what it felt like to have an experience of riding in those days.

The living force of the early morning sun, as it slaps your face. A blissful ride on a ribbon of solitude out into the morning brightness. The greeting of the morning dew as it sits on your face and fades into the burn of the first sunlight. Reflections of light that only glisten in the early morning. The sound of the wind against the wind of a two cylinder motor that is still waking up to the winter chill. The mechanical heart pumps the sound, the tune echoes into the mist, the perfect sound. The vibrations set a path both physically and spiritually as you glide on into an unknown experience. A simple thought who knows but the ability to use simple actions as a means to meditation, feeding your spirit is a different matter. A path opens as you sit into the glide, whether its mystic or not is up to your own musings. The opportunity is there in all the physical characteristics of riding and the solitude of your soul in the wind. The actions seem to give you wings as you ride, thoughts rise and meander as currents and under a blue sky, time seems to stand still. Emotions flood your thoughts as if you use them as a compass and strike out to a point of uncertainty . Life can seem like the weight of a stone when the illusions of existence sometimes make no sense with the actions you are faced with. Like the steel you ride, you forge your life by the actions you take, the mark on your surroundings, your family, your honor . Acting with the right intentions comes with a great deal of anxiety, its unbelievable that such a simple action as a morning ride can refresh your soul. The moments spent in positive thought reinforce your attitude on the actions you take, and as you fade into the sunset your ride continues into the next level, the ribbon of endless time.
