Anyone who has researched the Legendary Mobile Slim is familiar with the story:
Born to a boogie-woogie piano playing mother and a construction worker/ harmonica-playing father, he grew up in the segregated south of the Gulf Coast: Mobile, Bay St. Louis and New Orleans.
Moving on to Georgia, he played juke joints and honky tonks all across the Southeast, as well as singing for spare change on the streets of Underground Atlanta.
Ever the rolling stone, he spent several years in Mississippi, where he became a minister. He preached at many churches throughout the area, wrote a newspaper column and worked in the Civil Rights Movement.
Still restless, Mobile Slim moved back to Georgia, this time to Macon. This last known recording was found in a small studio in Macon. Playing with musicians who worked with James Brown, Percy Sledge, the Capricorn crowd and others, it seems Slim captured the essence of the sounds he had been known for throughout his career.
