People who are interested in George Strait Merle Haggard Kenny Chesney should consider this download.
Trey Hensley, despite his young age, has already forged his own style. What started seven years ago as a kid singing traditional bluegrass has become the mature-beyond-its-years sound of a 17-year old country performer and vocalist who has already found his voice. While youâll hear some of his idols and influences around the edges, more than anything, when you hear him sing, youâll hear Trey Hensley.
With a guitar in his hands, his talent expands beyond the reason of his 17 years. This guitar aficionado will blow your mind. His own style of picking â whether on acoustic or Telecaster â bears the influence of some of his guitar heroes. Youâll hear traces of Merle Haggardâs Roy Nichols; genre-smashing super-picker James Burton; bluegrass royalty Doc Watson and Tony Rice, and country stylists, Marty Stuart and Buck Owens.
Heâs befriended Kings, Queens and Earls: Johnny, June and Scruggs. Heâs picked with Tom T. Hall, The Oak Ridge Boys, Steve Wariner, Charlie Daniels and Ricky Skaggs. He first stepped into the Grand Ole Opryâs spotlight, performing on the hallowed Ryman stage in 2002 â at the age of 11, and even before that, onstage at the Carter Fold, the birthplace of country music.
Hensleyâs latest project, titled âLooking At My Futureâ features several songs penned by Trey including the island-inspired âI Wish I Was There,â the Brad Paisley influenced âBare Wires,â the tearjerker title ballad âLooking At My Future,â as well as the patriotic âSome Things You Need to Knowâ that he co-wrote specifically for the soldiers for whom he performed at Vice President Cheneyâs residence. Additionally, Trey has recorded covers of the great Johnny Rodriguez song âRiding My Thumb to Mexicoâ and the Elvis/Jerry Reed rocker, âGuitar Man.â
Listening to Trey on CD is almost like having him stand in front of you. You hear his voice and can almost see his fingers, and come away a fan. And just when you think you canât like him more, youâll realize that the humility in this young man is every bit as impressive as his talent. It wonât take long to recognize that heâs simply happiest when heâs playing his music.
