"Basically simple tunes with deeply inspired vocals with an uncluttered, straightforward acoustic and electric backing music." - Bob Cooper, POMN.
11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Folk Rock, ROCK: Acoustic
Details:
"The Truth Hurts" is probably the most focused album I've done up to this point. It was basically written in 1995 and recorded in my living room in 1996. I again wrote all the songs, played all the instruments, sang all the parts, etc. It was released in January 1997. Probably as a result of playing several solo shows in 1995 and '96, the album has a quiet, acoustic feel to it.
The idea, musically, on most songs was to have a four-piece band: "me" on acoustic guitar and lead vocal, a drummer, a bass player, and another guy playing something else, i.e. electric guitar on "Sorry Again," piano on "September Knows," or organ on "Thirteen Weeks." Even though I played all the parts, this idea gave me a base on which to record the album.
The songs are mostly about personal (and ultimately unsuccessful) relationships - longing for them, dealing with them, suffering in the aftermath, or watching friends go through them.
